About Me

I am a professional and a cook, rather a cook by choice and passion.Cooking is something I fantasise about. When I first thought of starting a blog,a thousand ideas coursed through my mind, albeit, none stood the sands of time.Except for the thought of a food blog accompanied by subtle nuances from daily life and from the world around me!

Welcome to 'Wit,Wok and Wisdom'!

Hello everybody!

In today's world, there are often scenarios where people often have to thrive on their own for months together bereft of the comfort of home-cooked food or the time to rustle up a home-cooked meal. Not that it is just time that matters, what also matters is the mistaken idea that cooking was just for females and gorging for males!Although some of the best known chefs around the world are males, this thoroughly disgruntled premise seems to have been drilled into the cranial kingdom of many otherwise advanced cultures in the country I come from...India.I believe that cooking is an art which should be taken down by any person, irrespective of the gender and it is this belief which has led me to delve more into the world of 'bachelor' cooking!

Speaking of India,I come down directly to my line of ancestry...the food-loving Bengalis. From time immemorial,Bengalis have been reputed to be connoiseurs of the art of cooking. For us, cooking cajoles out memories of our mothers sweating it out in smoky kitchens with arrays of chopped vegetables on either side and acrid fumes of hot oil billowing out of a wok where the salted and yellowed fish head stares at you with accusing eyes, searing to a grizzly golden brown. In recent times, however, we have learnt to realise that cooking simple home recipes may not, after all,be the Battle of Waterloo! Our mothers did have a tough time doling out all the delicacies that we feasted on,but we need to understand that times and climes have since then changed. With all readymade powdered masalas and spices now available conveniently in stores, cooking the same delicacies is just a matter of magical minutes!

Having said that,I now come to the name of my blog.I intend to fashion this blog as a cookbook primarily for all my friends out there who both love and 'do not' love stepping into the kitchen. For friends who are already experts,I would love to have your comments and corrections. For the uninitiated, trust me to let you know how simple it actually is to rustle up a 'Fulkopir torkari'(Cauliflower curry) or a 'Moonger dal'(Moong lentil soup) Bengali-style.I will try to be be very specific with the details,so as not to leave you unplugged anywhere in the midst of a curry!!I will start off with very simple recipes to satisy self and then move on to recipes that can bowl your friends over, once you gain the confidence of having them over for a sumptuous home-cooked meal!

So,here we go!!Smooth-flowing recipes easy enough to make you sing, hum and share while you cook!:)Welcome to my blog 'Wit,Wok and Wisdom'!
